Turning grief into community support
Founded in Springfield, Tennessee, The Gene Team was born out of profound personal lost in Honor of Gene A. Ellis. Today, we stand beside families navigating their darkest days by providing essential financial relief, grief counseling, youth programs, and educational scholarships.

Practical relief when families need it most
Our mission is simple and deeply personal: to restore hope to those who have lost a loved one. We do this through tangible acts of care, school supplies when the year begins, holiday support when the season feels heavy, grief gatherings that reduce isolation, and consistent community presence that says, “you are not alone.”
Our vision is a Springfield and Robertson County community in which children who lose a parent or family member still experience support, dignity, and the quiet assurance that someone is walking with them. We believe hope is not abstract; it is delivered through tangible gifts, shared stories, and steady emotional support. Our goal to walk alongside children who have lost a parent or family member, ensuring they are met with dignity, presence, and lasting hope.

Honoring memory through meaningful action
The Gene Team Memorial Foundation exists to restore hope where loss has left a void. Born from the personal journey of founder Torey Ellis after the death of his father, Gene A. Ellis, from oral cancer in 2014, the foundation was formally launched in 2019 and achieved 501(c)(3) status in 2024. What began as a son’s desire to keep his father’s spirit of helping families alive has grown into a local organization that meets children and families in the practical and emotional aftermath of loss.
Investing in the future of our children
Grief affects young hearts deeply. That is why The Gene Team is dedicated to empowering children through grief counseling, school supplies, youth camps, and educational scholarships. We are committed to building a brighter tomorrow where every child receives the tools, encouragement, and stability needed to thrive.
"When my father passed, The Gene Team stepped in with compassion and covered costs we could not bear. They gave our family hope when we had none left."
